The encounter with Mr. Trumplstilskin

Fair warning: Long-ass post up ahead.  Full of ALL CAPS and rants.  If interested, read on.  If not, TL;DR, I give some Trump supporter from Facebook a massive piece of my mind.

For the most part, I have kept this year’s election discourse out of my blog.  If it wasn’t my concerns over dealing with trolls, aggressive haters, and the like, then it was the possiblity of my arguments becoming repetitive, turning my little part of the internet world into a one note samba of #nevertrump.  I have also been quite fortunate that NONE, I repeat, NONE of my friends close friends, acquaintances and family on social networks such as Facebook, of any political persuasion, have put in any kind of support for the Trumpster dumpster (or whoever did had the decency to post in some private group, or somehow hide it from my eyes and the eyes of others) .  The disagreement over Hillary Clinton has been a little harder to avoid, but I have been able to stay out of those skirmishes as well.  I am not going to “unfriend” someone over making a choice that I did not make.  Only if they are going to argue with me about why I am a supposed idiot for making mine.

So, last night, I met my first Trumpkin online, on Facebook, no less.  Not directly my feed, but in the comments following a post from one of my old MP3.com buddies.  Unlike encounters others have had with their sort, this person seemed to be pretty decent and respectful, and I had the feeling that if I had met this person in real life, and had not known him to be a Trump supporter, then I probably would have gotten along with him just fine.  And I may have gotten along with him just fine online should the topic have been anything else.

But no, he had to spoil it all by posting this screed, in response to my online buddy’s plea to her friends and followers to not support Trump (we shall call him Mr. Trumplstilskin, for many, obvious reasons):

No one is suggesting that America isn’t great. All any Republican I know is suggesting is that Hillary has lived a life of crime. She represents a corrupt establishment that holds their personal interests above the interests of the country. That is the main concern. That coupled with all of the Obama failures and we have had enough.
We are tired of safe spaces, disrespect of the flag and lack of appreciation for the freedom and values that it represents, cop hating, rampant hypocrisy, the silencing of Christians, the silencing of opposing views, the one-sided, anti-American views that have taken over our education system, the constant spreading of propaganda to divide us, an establishment of elites who control everything for their own benefit, we are also tired of the unnecessary intervention in other countries business, American weakness displayed on the global stage, and that the idea of being proud to be American and proud of our American strength and liberty is somehow offensive. We want change!

The Clintons, to many of us, are at the heart of the problem. So, we want someone with real vision. Someone who had felt the same way for the last 35 years concerning the misuse of American global economic authority, Someone who believes in American exceptionalism without shame. Someone who puts American interests first. Someone who despises corruption and has vowed to end it. Someone who supports religious freedom. Someone who supports law enforcement and has vowed to uphold our laws. Someone who believes in the American people and will do everything he can to bring back jobs and lift all people out of poverty and elevate everyone to a better quality of life. That man is Trump! He is not the best orator and he has said some offensive things in the past. Show me one person who hasn’t?

But, I’d much rather have foul mouthed honesty than deceitful political correctness. I’d much rather have someone who has no need to run for president but has decided to out of an abundance of concern for his country than someone who is obviously power hungry and unashamedly corrupt. This is why we support Trump. He will make America great again and he will bring power back to the people and out of the hands of the political elite.

This is me, shaking my damn head.

Rather than boliviate ad nauseum all over my friend’s Facebook thread, I thought I would address Trumpkin’s screed here.  I apologize in advance for some of it not making any sense.  I will do my best not to appear apoplectic, though I cannot promise that it won’t come through.

Soo…

Dear Mr. Trumplstilskin,

I understand that as a dutiful, tax paying American, who may or may not live in an area that has been hammered by economic recession, and not seeing any upswing since the days of REAGAN  your concerns are certainly not deniable. I am not sure you quite understand how bad an idea Trump for president is, though.  Maybe Clinton isn’t all that great either, but she is a far sight better than the alternative.  But what I would like to do is go through your points on your little missive and point out where you may be mistaken (after all, anything can be disproven – its the internet, right?  Pick your favorite crackpot reference and stick with it! Zwinkerndes Smiley)

“All any Republican I know is suggesting is that Hillary has lived a life of crime. She represents a corrupt establishment that holds their personal interests above the interests of the country.”

So first off, I just have to ask – what crime has Hillary committed? Really? Whitewater was an investment that fell flat.  As with other congresspeople she voted her conscience based on faulty information fed to her by the Bush Administration.  She has already said “My bad” over the 30,000 emails, and its been proven that all that really happened was that she just wanted some flexibility in her emails, nothing more – which is nothing in comparison over the….

22,000,000 emails Bush, Cheney and Rove housed on a Republican-subsidized server and were deleted!!!! How come noone is talking about, and has never talked about, THAT!!!!

And she is still held responsible for Bengazi, in which 4 people were killed, yet nothing is said about the…

151,000 to 600,000 killed in Iraq because George W. Bush initially thought he needed to finish the job his daddy started?  WTF about THAT!!!!!!!

The corrupt establishment that you speak of did not start in the last eight years.  It started with Nixon (you remember him, right?).  Carter tried to fix it, but was, unfortunately, way out of his league.  Reagan, every Republican’s saint, took the “cut the fat” approach, started the cutting of government spending on social programs, more for military programs, and what did we end up with?

IRAN-CONTRA!!!! ANOTHER GOVERNMENT SCANDAL!!!!!

Bush the first was an inconsequential tieover to Clinton, save for the invasion of Kuwait, in which our troops were sent to fight off the Iraqis back to their borders.  And just to their borders.  For Bush the first knew the dangers that lurked, which his idiot son and his dolt henchmen completely and totally ignored.

So, in this respect, in Ms. Clinton’s service as a senator and as Secretary of State, how has she held her personal interests above that of the country?  It has already been shown, in the Wikileaks releases, that even in her speeches to Goldman Sachs employees, she admonished them for adhering too close to the bottom line and not considering the world at large.   I am sorry that you don’t think she deserves to make money.  I mean.  Trump makes money.  Lots of it.  Why not her?  Perhaps you need to be more concerned with the public foibles of your Republican candidate.

“That coupled with all of the Obama failures and we have had enough.”

Implementation of national health insurance was a failure? 2% job growth (as opposed to .2% under Bush the second) a failure?  Sorry, son, your metrics are all messed up, on that one. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

“We are tired of safe spaces, disrespect of the flag and lack of appreciation for the freedom and values that it represents, cop hating, rampant hypocrisy, the silencing of Christians, the silencing of opposing views, the one-sided, anti-American views that have taken over our education system, the constant spreading of propaganda to divide us, an establishment of elites who control everything for their own benefit, we are also tired of the unnecessary intervention in other countries business, American weakness displayed on the global stage, and that the idea of being proud to be American and proud of our American strength and liberty is somehow offensive. We want change!”

So, I don’t get it.  You want no one to feel safe? Or is it that you don’t want to hear about people running to somewhere “safe”, away from someone who would shame/kill them for their skin color/gender identity/religion, et. al.  I have seen no disrespect of the flag, unless you mean that everyone from football players to high school musicians kneeling during the national anthem as a sign of protest and actually….

PRACTICING, AND SHOWING THE APPRECIATION FOR, THE VALUES THAT IT REPRESENTS!!!!!!! TALK ABOUT RAMPANT HYPOCRICY!!!!!!!

As for cop hating, I see no one hating cops.  I do see a lot of cops hating others.  In fact there are, right now, a lot of cops hating the Native American water protectors in North Dakota, people who signed a treaty in 1850 to have their own land, only to have it violated because the city of Bismarck did not want an oil pipe under it.  As for the scilencing of Christians, has someone, anyone, come up to you personally and told you, as a Christian, to zip it?  Has anyone told you, personally, as a Christian, that you cannot practice your own values in your own home?  Because many who are NOT Christian, who are not thought of as “proper” by some of the members of the Christian community, are saying that the Right in the US are trying to just that to THEM, even down to the point of which medications owners of large chain stores would allow their employees to take.  That is not silencing of Christians, that is

attempting to silence people with whom Christians do not agree. Thought about that, Mr. Trumplstilskin???

As for the silencing of opposing views, I see none.  What I do see is Americans of thoroughly northern European descent getting bent out of shape, because society of today will not allow them to say what they want with impunity.  I am sorry if they cannot have what their grandparents had call folks of other colors “c####” or “n######” as if said individuals were yesterday’s laundry.  My grandparents were members of the Russian aristocracy.  All that changed during the Russian Revolution.  Can’t cry over that now, though a palace outside of Moscow with Cossacks serving me drinks would be nice. Smiley mit geöffnetem Mund

As for the one sided “anti-American” views in schools, hmmm…I realize it’s been a while since  I was a student, but I thought people went to school to learn, among other things, critical thinking skills? To help them get through this thing called life, as Prince sang once?  Is the discovery that the victor does not get to write the history of, say, the Spanish conquest, and eventual forfeiture, of lands on the West coast and south west of the US, and how the local native population suffered as a result bugging you Mr. Trumplstilskin?  That teaching kids to think for themselves is a bad idea? Sounds like it is.

the constant spreading of propaganda to divide us-I had to laugh at this.  You know what’s dividing propaganda? Your buddies at Breitbart and Fox News.  Not to mention their kissing cousins Newsmax and Drudge Report.  Not to mention the Republican led congress that has made it their sworn duty to block every bill Obama tries to pass for eight years. Again…

WTF about THAT!!!!!

“an establishment of elites who control everything for their own benefit, we are also tired of the unnecessary intervention in other countries business,” – oh Mr. Trumplstilskin, honey, you’ve never heard of the Rockerfellers? the Carnegies?  All those masters of industries?  THOSE ELITES? And yes, I am tired of unnecessary intervention, but seriously, was this an issue with you when BUSH II was in office? Didn’t think so.

“the idea of being proud to be American and proud of our American strength and liberty is somehow offensive.” No one who is American is not proud of this.  We are just not proud of what this country has turned into in the year that TRUMP started running for president, and what he has encouraged.  We are not proud of the the return of overt racism and sexism to the central stage.  We are not proud of Obama being blamed for dividing the country, when, in fact, its the Republicans who have done so, again due to racism.  Obama is, in fact, quite popular here in Europe.  Trump, not so much, and this is something that I have to explain to associates as to how someone like Trump was allowed to be where he is.  I had to tell them, angry, ignorant, poor Americans.  No one wants to admit to this, but it’s true.

“we want someone with real vision. That man is Trump!”

Mr. Trumplstilskin, sweetheart, I hate to tell you this, but Trump is not your guy.  Trump, as anyone who has been with him will tell you, is out for no one but himself.  Not even his kids have contributed one cent to his campaign. He will not bring back jobs.  In fact, his hotels are closing, costing Americans thousands of jobs. And the worst thing is, he has publically stated that he would turn day to day running of the country over to his vice president, Mike Pence.  Now, given Mr. Pence’s view on things, if you want to live in a fascist police state that takes its moral blueprint from “A Handmaid’s Tale” while squeaking by on a less than stellar economic growth rate, then I guess Pence would be your guy.  But what I am guessing what you really want is the country to go back to where it was 50, or even 150 years ago, when “everyone knew their place” and certain folks could be smacked down in public if they got “uppity”.  Where you were actually jailed and hung if you were, say, gay, or in some areas, black. Where not going to church justified public shunning, or worse.  Even though it’s “a free country”.

Really, this is what you want, isn’t it?

Remember what I said earlier about the palace outside of Moscow with Cossacks serving me drinks because of ancestors?  Of course, it’s not happening.  As I am not delusional, and I live in the here and now, I work with what is available to make  a better future for everyone.  No matter where they came from or where they are going.  This, to me, signifies the America I believe in.  Everyone gets a shot.  Everyone helps each other.  Everyone supports each other.  This is not, unfortunately, the America I have eventually come to know.  But I can dream.  And that dream does not include Trump.  Nor Pence.

“He is not the best orator and he has said some offensive things in the past. Show me one person who hasn’t?”

Obama has been nothing but respectful in all of his speeches, for one.  I also question if you trust someone to stand near your wife or daughter(s) once they have admitted to grabbing women by the pussy.  You think about that for a second, Mr. Trumplstilskin.

“But, I’d much rather have foul mouthed honesty than deceitful political correctness.”

So, basically, you would rather have someone who is an upfront racist, misogynist baboon, than someone who shows respect toward others who aren’t like her?  Good to know!!!!!!

“I’d much rather have someone who has no need to run for president but has decided to out of an abundance of concern for his country than someone who is obviously power hungry and unashamedly corrupt.”

Once again, Donald Trump does not love you.  He loves himself.  THAT’s why he’s running.  Nothing to do with concern of country.  And, again, name one thing Ms. Clinton has done that was illegal, and has not come out of some crackpot source that has a powerpoint presentation as proof.

Look, I was rooting for Bernie Sanders.  But I am not mad that Clinton got the party pick.  She is the best qualified and the hardest working person to be sent to the Oval Office.  Better or worse, she has been preparing her whole life for this, and I think that, once she is in office, heads will turn and minds will change.

I hope yours will too, Mr. Trumplstilskin.

Peace out,

Helen
